Supervet Championship

It would appear that I have won the supervet category in the Club Championships this year. It's the first time they have had this category. Ian Goudie, the club statistician, announced the result at the AGM and vey graciously presented me with a commemorative T-shirt -- Ian ran a very close second. He fairly kept me up to the mark all season. PS the photo on the front is Dorando Pietri of Italy, crossing the line in the marathon at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. He collapsed several times during the race and ran the wrong way. Not far from the finish, two race officials took him by the arms, and brought him to the line. As a consequence, after crossing the line he was disqualified. The medal went to American Johnny Hayes who was second. Since he himself had not been responsible for his disqualification Queen Alexandra the next day awarded him a gold cup in recognition of his achievement. (Thanks to Scott Kennedy for the correction -- I originally thought the picture was Spiridon Louis.)

Result !!!!

Official Glasgow result 1.35.53 making it my best ever Glasgow Half and the best half of the year for me. A word about the support -- it was second to none -- all the way round the course. So many club members out there cheering us on -- too many to mention -- we are undoubtedly the best club in the city -- if not the country. Some great pics too from Frances, Brendan and Claire.

Blood sweat and .....

Just under 1.36 at the Glasgow half today -- happy with that -- it's my best half this year and my best ever time at Glasgow -- it's never been a race that I've come to grips with. Planned to run 7.10-7.15 a mile and was pretty much bang on target for eight miles -- dipped a little in the middle of the race, lost a good bit of time here, and picked up again until mile 12. Ran steadily for home on the last one. Full concentration on the Loch Ness Marathon now.
