A lovely summer night for the Clydebank 10k this year. My first outing since taking to my bed with the sinus infection -- indeed my first run in 4 weeks. I may have pulled out of the Edinburgh Marathon, but that doesn't mean I can't race. A slow 47 minutes for so, but no matter I was out to run and enjoy myself. I ran the first 4k at my normal pace, but my lack of conditioning told and I slowed dramatically for the second half of the race. Had a great time and met lots of old friends. Some notable performances -- Anne Murray from Clydesdale sub 40; my old running mate Alan Whyte down somewhere around 38"; Leanne from the Donald Dewar Centre around 38" as well. I was also passed in the latter part of the race, by Marina, Kath and Cameron Black. Oh well I'll live to fight another day -- next time I'll tie their shoelaces together -- it's good to be back !!! PS Ran the Dumbarton 10k the next Thursday. Bit of a bonus as I managed to finish work early. Funnily enough the time was almost the same -- 46.58.
Thousands of women took to the streets of Glasgow to run in the biggest 10k race of its kind in the country. I have lots of friends running so I turned up to support them -- seeing how they would not let me run !!! Almost the entire Bellahouston Friday morning circuit class seemed to be running -- and I must give Anne-Marie from the Scotctoun Saturday Bodypump class a special mention for finishing in a blistering 48 minutes. It was a great family fun day with the entertainment being provided by the Glasgow Club fitness coaches compered by Sharon (Davina) Campbell. Next race for me is the new Glasgow Men's 10k on June 18. Had to drop the Edinburgh Marathon. I've lost three weeks crucial training to a severe sinus infection -- I'm still not able to run -- so Edinburgh will have to wait for another year. Lost a lot of running time to illness this year -- well we're human beings, not machines -- sometimes I tend to forget that and push myself a little too hard !!!Picture: (Sharon and the girls strut their stuff at the Women's 10k)
