East Kilbride 10k

A fairly pedestrian performance on the face of it at this large and very well-supported event. The 10k and the half marathon are run at the same time with a split at 9k. Finished in what at first was a disappointing 45.23. A bit of a mystery as I ran much more strongly than at Rouken Glen and the course was much flatter -- indeed conditions were perfect. The mystery deepened because at 5 miles I clocked 34.59 -- on target for around 43.30. However on checking the Garmin afterwards all became clear -- the distance was in fact 6.37 miles. It is clear that I slowed on the hill at the end of the race but if it were a proper 10k my result would have been more like 44.15 -- which still isn't great -- but I can live with it. Real plus point for me is that I can sustain my 10k pace for five miles -- now I have to build my stamina as well as my speed in training. Next outing the President's Cup on Wednesday -- I am sure I have a decent 5k in me !! Pic courtesy of Greig and Danielle Glendinning.
