Results...Results...Results

Good solid run at the Helensburgh Half this morning. Finished in 1.37.14 a minute or so outside my PB. Happy with the result on the day -- though I had thought I could have done a little better than that. Conditions were pretty warm so that has to be taken into acount. I tried something new -- a longer warm-up. Recommended by Scott Johnston a fellow Bella who has been getting some great race results, We did almost a mile at an easy jog and on the way back threw in some fast bursts. Twenty minutes later when the race started my motor was well warmed up -- so much so that I made a classic mistake and ran the first mile in 6.57 -- too fast. Reined in over the next couple of miles settling at 7.15. Lost focus for some reason over the next couple, losing around 15 seconds a mile -- maybe the heat kicking in ? The rest of the race was 7.20ish apart from mile 11-12 -- when what I call the Helensburgh factor kicked in -- that long boring 2 mile section with the nasty wee hill -- slowed dramatically there. Picked up for the last 1.1 miles, back on 7.15 pace. This race was never about the distance -- I'm doing 18 mile marathon training runs at the moment -- it was always about getting the pace right -- and I didn't quite manage that. Still not a bad result given that I did an18 mile long run on Wednesday. PS Lots of prizes for my lady friends. Debs Gray and Claire Wharton from Bella won individual prizes and Bellahouston Ladies won the team prize. Marina and Kath from Clydesdale both won individual prizes. The third lady in the Bella team was Karlyn Forsyth. Well done girls !!! PPS thanks to Aileen from Clydesdale who provided great support all round the course and of course John from Bella.
