Vale of Leven 10k

Strangely pleased with a time of 44.54 for this the last and toughest of the Polaroid series. This is the first time I have been able to complete all four races in one season -- cracked the series at last. I have a love/hate relationship with the Vale 10k-- it was my first ever race some 12 years ago -- I had a bad fall one year and cracked a rib -- but still I come back for more -- proof positive that runners are not right in the head. Not sure why it is slower than the others -- there is a long hill at the start but that's followed by a nice downhill. But most runners find it tough. I set myself a target of sub-45 minutes, although at the back of my head was the thought that the PB fairy might sprinkle her magic dust and I might do a little better than that. But 44.54 it was and quite happy with that. I ran well for the first 5k, pacing myself nicely for the hill and taking advantage of the downhill section but Tom Mcmillan shot past me just short of 5k and I had nothing in the tank to go with him -- an excellent race from another supervet. Richard Leyton kept close on my heels and passed me at 6k -- doing to me what he says I usually do to him, so he'll be well pleased. At this point I settled down and cruised home in as good a style as I could muster. Tired legs this Sunday so happy with the result. PS I won a spot prize for the first time ever -- guess what -- another pair of sunglasses. although they are fancy aviator style -- suitable for a lady I think !!!

Heh Norm, I didn't realise that we both raced this event ten years ago as well!

Small world Ian -- can't remember my time - I'm probably faster today.
