Tom Scott 10 Mile Road Race
This is a tough little race. There was a brand new route this year -- several loops of Strathclyde Park starting at the Watersports Centre. Had hoped for 7.00 minute miles but it was not to be. A reasonably good start although mile 2 was perhaps a little quick. Hit mile 6 at 42.30 feeling pretty good but just past the Watersports Centre there was a sharp left turn onto the loch side --into the wind and some pretty tough slopes. This was a slow one -- 7.42. Managed to pick up again for the last two miles 7.05 and 7.06 with a finishing time of 1.11.52 less than a minute outside my PB which was set on the old road route starting at Law Village -- much better and faster. Interestingly my Garmin measured the new route as 10.13 miles and my 10 mile time at 1.11.03 which would have put me within 5" of my old PB. Of course these devices are not 100% accurate. Thanks to Mark Coyle from Motherwell AC for the fine picture.
PS All finishers received a very nice glass trophy instead of a medal -- a nice touch
PPS My chums Marina and Kath from Clydesdale ran very well. Marina clocking 1.12.55 and Kath 1.14.57PPPS Stevie was at Dunbar on Saturday finishing the Belhaven Best 10k in 39.13PPPPS It appears that I came first in the Bellahouston Roadrunners Club Championship Winter Handicap. It was announced last week at the training session. The website has yet to be updated so I don't know the details.
